Atishi from AAP says ED is BJP’s political tool and not an independent investigating agency.
Atishi stated that the ED’s summonses against Arvind Kejriwal are being used by the BJP to target the opposition, rather than for any genuine investigation.
On Thursday, Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi asserted that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) serves as a political tool for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rather than operating as an independent agency. Her comments followed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal filing a new petition with the Delhi High Court, requesting it to instruct the ED not to take any coercive measures against him.
“Atishi told news agency PTI that Arvind Kejriwal approached the high court to prevent the Enforcement Directorate from taking coercive action. She stated that the ED is not an independent investigating agency but a political tool of the BJP. Atishi added that the ED is being used to target the opposition, rather than for genuine investigations.”
She accused the BJP of using the ED to stop Kejriwal from campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections and to have him arrested. Atishi questioned why the ED doesn’t clarify its intentions in court if its aim is solely investigation.
“Atishi said that when they filed an appeal in the High Court, the ED strongly opposed it. She questioned why the ED couldn’t simply clarify that they didn’t intend to arrest Arvind Kejriwal, but only wanted to question him. Atishi claimed that the ED’s motivation is clear—they want to arrest Kejriwal on the BJP’s orders so he can’t campaign in the Lok Sabha elections.”
Kejriwal’s new plea at the high court on Thursday asks the ED not to take any strong actions against him. This comes after he didn’t attend all the summonses from the agency. In his petition, Kejriwal requested the ED to assure the court that they won’t take any strong action against him if he follows the summonses. He’s willing to cooperate if the ED promises not to arrest him or if the court orders no strong actions
Earlier, on Wednesday, the court listened to a petition by Kejriwal questioning the legality of the summonses sent to him. He informed the court during this session that he’s ready to meet with the ED but requested protection.
