Shahabuddin to walk out from jail after 11 years as Patna HC grants him bail
PATNA: Siwan strongman and former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin is all set to walk out of jail after 11 years, as Patna high court has granted him bail in the much-publicised Rajiv Roshan murder case.
Rajiv was prime witness in the case of brutal murder of his two brothers- Girish Raj and Satish Raj- at Shahabuddin’s native village in Siwan district on August 16, 2004.Rajiv was shot dead in Siwan on June 16, 2014 when Shahabuddin was in jail. Shahabuddin’s son Osama was accused of killing Rajiv, while the jailed former MP was later made accused in the case as conspirator.
A single bench of Justice Jitendra Mohan Sharma granted bail to Shahabuddin in Rajiv murder case on Wednesday. The former lawmaker is already on bail in the case related to murder of brothers, Girish Raj and Satish Raj.
“As Shahabuddin has got bail from different courts in all other criminal cases pending against him, he can now walk out of the jail after completing certain formalities,” his counsel Y V Giri told reporters.
A police officer said, Shahabuddin, who is currently lodged in Bhagalpur central jail, was now being shifted to Siwan district jail. The former MP might reach Siwan by Thursday evening or Friday, he said.
The former MP would have to complete certain legal formalities at Siwan CJM court on the basis of Patna high court’s bail order, and he would be freed to walk out from the jail.
Shahabuddin was transferred to Bhagalpur Central jail from Siwan district jail a few months back after the sensational murder of Hindi newspaper journalist Rajdev Ranjan in which one of his close associates, Laddan Miyan has been named. Rajdev Ranjan was killed on May 13, 2016 near Siwan railway station allegedly by some criminals hired by a local gang lord.
