NCP to protest on Sept 12 over cluster redevpt issue
THANE: The city unit of the NCP will take to the street on September 12 to protest against the delay on the part of the BJP-Sena-led government to finalise a policy for implementing cluster redevelopment of old and dilapidated buildings in the city.
The protest march will begin from the district collectorate office and will culminate at the TMC headquarters. The NCP’s protests is an attempt to drive home a point that in spite of the saffron parties rule in the state government and also in the municipal corporation, basic needs like proper shelter has been ignored and lakhs of people continue to risk their lives by living in old and dilapidated buildings.
NCP leader Jitendra Awhad claimed that it is nearly a year since the Democratic Front (DF) had drafted the cluster redevelopment plan, but the saffron partners have failed to take up the issue. They should be held accountable for the deaths of the recent building collapses cases, he said. The NCP leader came down heavily on Thane district’s guardian minister Eknath Shinde and alleged that after the Sena-BJP came into power eight months ago, not a single meeting was held by him for executing the policy. “I had led a morcha of more than 25,000 people against my own government to demand housing for the poor. I dare Shinde to do the same and if required I will join him along with my party workers,” he added.
NCP’s city unit chief Najib Mulla has accused Sena of indulging in dirty politics in the name of religion which has affected the city’s development.
