Govt contracts: File case against Tuki, HC tells CBI
Guwahati: The division bench of Gauhati high court comprising chief justice (acting) K Sreedhar Rao and justice PK Saikia on Friday directed the CBI to register a case against Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Nabam Tuki for alleged misuse of his office to favour his kin in landing government contracts during his earlier tenure as state PWD minister.
Senior advocate Bhaskar Dev Konwar told TV channels that the court has ordered the probe into the alleged misconduct by Tuki.
The court also directed the CBI to take the case records and the documents in its custody from the registry of the high court for the purpose of investigation. The CBI has been directed to file an FIR and submit the final report before the jurisdictional special court in Guwahati under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The special judge has also been directed to try and dispose of the case in accordance with law.
The court order is based on a PIL by one Nabam Tabam against Tuki, who later pleaded for withdrawing the case. But the court, in 2010, took up the case suo moto.
The case relates to a contract for constructing low-cost housing for ‘safai karmacharis’ for Rs.3,06,06,667.74, another for constructing staff quarters for Rs.52,28,038 and one for house keeping and catering service of Arunachal House in Delhi.
