Congress demands CBI probe into ‘pulses scam’ in Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Kaul Singh Thakur on Tuesday demanded a CBI probe into the multi-crore pulses scam and supply of sub-standard rations to the Public Distribution Shops in the State.
At a press conference here, he alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party Government is the most corrupt government the hill State has ever seen. Everyday, he said, new scams are coming to the fore and the Government has sold the interests of the people to the outsiders. He even went to the extent of saying that the present government is selling jobs and the Congress Party is gathering evidence to prove the same in the coming days. “We would substantiate the same in our charge sheet,” he added.
Mr Thakur said that even the BJP cadres are feeling suffocated and the honest voices in the party are being choked by the top corrupt leaders. The recent formation of “Himachal Lokhit Party” is the outcome of this annoyance. But he also denied allegations that a large number of Congress leaders, especially of Virbhadra Singh’s faction, are in touch with the Himachal Lokhit Party. The Congress party also reiterated its demand for releasing a White Paper by the Government on the financial health of the State. He said the State is reeling under a heavy debt of Rs.27,000 crore and has taken a further loan to release the instalment of provident fund and arrears of the State Government employees.
The PCC president said that it is pathetic that various cement companies established in the State are selling their products at a much higher price in Himachal than in the neighbouring States. Much of the cultivable land in the State has been left barren by the farmers because of stray cattle and monkeys, he said.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Brij Bihari Lal Butail, who was heading a three-member fact-finding committee on the recent defeat of the Congress in Renuka by-election, submitted the report to the party president on Tuesday. He said a massive misuse of official machinery by the BJP and the wrong choice of the candidate by Congress were the main reasons for defeat.
