FIR against Vidya Balan for ‘indecent’ exposure
The complainant alleges that the posters and promos of The Dirty Picture are obscene and are causing inconvenience to women.
Police on Saturday registered an FIR against actor Vidya Balan, following a complaint by an advocate, who alleged that she had posed for indecent photographs on the posters and promos of the film The Dirty Picture.
The complainant, Sai Krishna Azad, a practising advocate, had last month approached the Nampally court in Hyderabad and filed a petition, in which, he had alleged that the posters and promos of the film were “obscene” and were “causing inconvenience to women” in the Nallakunta area and other parts of Hyderabad.
The petitioner had further alleged that the posters and hoardings of the film were “spoiling the minds of the people and causing harm to the society”.
A direction was sought from the court to the police for registering a case against Balan, after which, the court directed the Nallakunta Police to investigate on the complaint and file a status report before it, Azad said.
Following a court directive, a case was booked against Vidya Balan under Section 294 (Obscene acts and songs) and relevant sections under the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, Nallakunta Inspector of Police M. Suman Kumar said.
“After we received the court order copy on Saturday, a case was registered against Vidya Balan. If allegations are proved after investigation, we may question her,” the police officer added.
