New workshop to widen Russian longwall manufacturer links
LONGWALL equipment manufacturer United Machinery Technologies (OMT-GUM) recently opened a brand new state-of-the-art workshop in Siberia’s coal-rich Kusbass region, in an effort to widen its links with Russian companies and establish relationships with foreign companies.
OMT-GUM, a subsidiary company of Sokolovskaya Holding Company, said the new 22,000 square metre workshop in the city of Kiselevsk was the most modern and best equipped in the Russian Federation.
The workshop manufactures hydraulic roof supports, shearers, AFC’s and belt conveyors as well as roof bolts and centrifugal ventilators designed in-house by Gyprouglemash (GUM), the former research institute established in 1935, which was incorporated into the OMT organisation in 2001. The designers use Solid Works and are experienced in stress and finite element analysis. The plant was primarily designed for the production of steel fabrications with a total capacity of 15,000 tonnes per annum, using new machines imported from Germany such as the Burny computer-controlled thermal cutters, the Severt robotic three axis manipulators and semi-automatic welders with inbuilt quality control programs. OMT is close to acquiring ISO9000 accreditation.Associated with OMT is German company AMD-OHE GmgH, a manufacturer of hydraulic control systems, valves and hose fittings used by OMT for the control of their mining roof supports, and Skeeda Mining Limited, a UK registered company, which undertakes project management and market research on behalf of OMT.OMT also plans to use the new facility to undertake repair work on all types of mining machinery.OMT recently signed a contract with Halbach and Braun for the repair of AFC line pans to be undertaken at the Kiselevsk workshop.
